As the world evolves into a better and more sustainable future for everyone, a lot of companies are making great strides to cut down or even totally eliminate the need to test on or use animals when making their products. One brand that’s taken the leap towards veganism is Dr. Martens. As stated on their website; “Our vegan shoe collection might have lost the leather, but it still has all the attitude” and you know what, we can’t get enough!
Dr. Martens goes back all the way to the 1940s, best known amongst the punk and grunge scene, now they are most recently becoming a must in the vegan community. As the brand grows larger, so does their fanbase, which is why it’s no surprise they’ve branched out to be more inclusive for all. Over the years you’ve seen their classic 1460 combat boots, then the oxfords, now we’re seeing more creative styles such as platforms, sandals, and heels. Now with their new launch into vegan products, anyone can feel comfortable in their footwear while not missing out on awesome Docs features.
Seriously, you won’t notice the difference! Dr. Martens has managed to bring forward these wonderful all-vegan boots and sandals while maintaining their signature style, comfort, and durability. The “leather” used is made from a synthetic cruelty-free material called “Cambridge Brush”. They still have the same finish and feel of Dr. Martens original styles while still being as tough as ever. All that goodness still rests on the iconic Dr. Martens air-cushioned sole. While it’s known that the non-vegan Docs use wool and leather from animals, they do not use fur, angora, down, or exotic animal hair or skin. Although it’s not a complete 180-degree change, it’s definitely a great start!
Dr. Martens has vowed to keep changing and improving as their customer base grows bigger and more dynamic. The brand's originality is forever, and they plan to stick with what they’re known for but seem excited and willing to explore new ideas for better fast forward styles and cruelty-free options.
And that’s the latest scoop on Docs and their vegan journey! Although the journey is just beginning, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our brand buddy across the pond. This new vegan cruelty-free movement feels like a new chapter for the infamous brand with unlimited possibilities. And who knows, maybe we’ll have plant-based shoes as an even bigger leap from faux leather engineered from plastic, for a totally decomposable design.
