Baggins Blog (BB): Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Mother Shelly (MS): My name is Shelly, but you can call me Mom. I have been a part of the Tattoo Zoo crew for six months now. I moved here from Quebec a year ago with my boyfriend and our two hairless cats! In 2012 I started tattooing and then I took a break and came back stronger!
BB: Can you tell us a little about how you found your signature style?
MS: The world of tattooing is forever evolving and I think that it's especially hard in your earlier career to really say that you have a signature style. You try new things, then you become comfortable with it, then that becomes your signature style and then you re-do the same thing!
BB: What is your favourite thing about tattooing?
MS: Seeing my client’s faces when they look at their tattoo. It makes me super happy to see that they are thrilled having something that I created on their body.
BB: Can you talk us through your customized Baggins Original?
MS: I got inspired by classic tattoo flash, lady’s profile, butterfly, skull and rose.
BB: Converse, Dr. Martens or Vans - what’s your go-to shoe?
MS: My go-to shoes are definitely Vans slip-ons. I have so many pairs of Vans and have bought Vans for as long as I can remember.
BB: What is your favourite thing to do in Victoria?
MS: I moved here a year ago and I feel like I still have so much to see! I really enjoy taking walks on the beaches and seeing the tiny goats in Beacon Hill Park.
BB: Who have you been listening to recently?
MS: I’ve binge-watched the new Sabrina Netflix show in about two days – if you haven’t watched it yet I highly recommend it!
BB: How did you start creating art? Why do you make art?
MS: First time I picked up a pen I started drawing, it’s a great way to express how you feel inside sometimes or just create something that will please the eyes.
BB: Can you tell us about the space where you create?
MS: Since I mostly draw on my iPad I can create pretty much anywhere! My creating space is almost always a different one, at work, on the beach, at the park, etc.
BB: What are the circumstances where you feel most inspired?
MS: I have multiple notes on my phone for tattoo flash ideas that I got at the most random time. I don’t think there is any particular circumstance, it comes and goes.
