BAGGINS AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Today we face a crisis, an environmental crisis and here at Baggins, we're well aware of the impact we have on the environment. We're working towards a greener future because we care about preserving this earth that we live on and although there are many areas in which we could improve this is what we're doing now to reduce our footprint and the practices we plan on implementing for a more sustainable future! 🌱

Renew Line from Converse

The Converse Renew line was released in the summer of 2019. We were so excited to see Converse take this initiative to help reduce waste and take a step towards sustainability. We're sure you've heard our praises, but how could we not love these kicks? Their canvas is made with 100% recycled polyester made from recycled bottles, along with recycled polyester laces and a signature recycled speckled outsole. They have a unique little twist to their look, yet they maintain their iconic Converse vibes which we love.

Save the Planet Collection from Vans

The Vans Save Our Planet collection is vibrant and fun in its design, but this amazing collection lets you help out the efforts to care for our planet. Vans is donating $200,000 of the proceeds from the "Save Our Planet" collection to "Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii", a non-profit which encourages communities to care for their coastlines through education and clean up efforts.⁠

Shoe Repair

Did you know we offer shoe repairs? Yes! If your shoes come with a defect we offer to repair them for you! Often, depending on the severity of the damage, the repairs are free of charge! Warranties are destroyed and thrown out so this is a great way to reduce waste.

Paper Bags

In 2017 we switched from plastic bags to paper bags! And what's better than paper bags? Well, paper bags that are made with 100% recycled paper, woohoo! As lovely and sustainable as this sounds though, we do encourage you to bring your own bag, because if there's anything better than recyclable bags made out of 100% recycled paper, it's reusable bags that you can keep using over and over again.

Shipping with Minimum Packaging

When it comes to packages we like to use the least amount of packaging for shipping to reduce our waste where we can!

Our Staff Room

We stocked up our staff room with reusable mugs and cups to reduce the use of disposable coffee or water cups.

What the Future Holds

As more sustainable and innovative options become available we try our best to hop on board and implement them here at Baggins. In the near future, we are looking into using hemp string loops instead of plastic ones for our shoe tags! We're also looking forward to seeing what the brands we carry come up with! There is a lot in the works and a lot of new and exciting sustainable product options are coming your way 😍

It's a team effort! if you feel like hopping on the sustainability train with us, here are some things you can do to help reduce waste:

BYOB - As we said before bringing your own bag to put your brand new kicks in is a great way to reduce waste! Remembering to bring your own bag can be nearly impossible, but a good thing to do is to leave it somewhere near your door, whether that is right on your doorknob, on your shoes, or putting it in your handbag/backpack. Canvas bags can roll up super small so they don't take much room at all! AND if you're feeling like making your own personalized tote we can print one for you with any design you have in mind! 🛍️
Recycle Your Shoe Boxes - All the boxes the shoes come in are recyclable so next time you're done with a box remember to chuck it into the recycling bin rather than the trash bin ☺️ ♻️
Resell - If you're no longer loving your well cared for kicks, reselling is always an option. It can be tedious to resell things but there are many great apps and Facebook groups that make it a bit easier. This way you're extending your shoe's life a little longer and they're not becoming a new addition to the landfill. 💰
Donate - If you don't feel like reselling your shoes but they're still in good condition, donating them is a great option. A good deed goes a long way! 🎁
Don't Get Discouraged - It can all seem very overwhelming, but remember, it's not about being perfect, it's about trying your best! Every little thing helps and change starts with small steps! 👍
