Chucks are fashionable yet anti-fashion, classic yet unique, and they make one heck of a statement. Plus, they can outlast even the heaviest of jam sessions. So is it any wonder why bands—and their fans—love them?

If you want to show the world just how much you love your favourite band, here’s how to do it, Converse-style. (Hint: It doesn’t involve drinking wine out of a stranger’s sneaker because that’s disgusting.)

Sport a Special Edition

Converse loves to collaborate with musicians. SNFU, Black Sabbath, The Who, Gorillaz, Green Day—all of these great bands have worked with Converse to create an authentic look that’s all their own. There are even a few pairs that pay homage to the legendary Jimi Hendrix. No Bieber, though (although he did sport them in one of his first photoshoots when he was still a fresh-faced teen with better things to do than egg his neighbour’s house).

Create Your Own Design

Do you have some sweet fan art? Maybe a special lyric that’s close to your heart? Then slap it on a pair of Chucks. Here at Baggins, you can create your own Converse with just a few clicks. Simply choose your size and style (Converse lo top, Converse hi-top or Vans classic slip-on), upload your image, throw us a few details if necessary, and we’ll take care of the rest.

When you receive your sweet customized kicks, be sure to let your favourite band know (tell them Fraidy sent you). Tweet them a pic or tag them on Facebook to let them know just how much you love them! And who knows, maybe they’ll say “Hey.” Or stop by your house for tea.

All or Nothing

While Converse sneakers can totally hold their own, they can also be part of a much bigger look. Musicians each have a unique style that you, the fan, can emulate. Starting with Chucks, you can take inspiration from their outfits and find a look that’s all your own, with a hint of rock and roll style.

As your style cat, I need to tell you that it’s important to not copy their look entirely. Unless you and your buddy are dressing up as Garth and Wayne for Halloween (like me and my BFF did last year), it’s best to just borrow parts of their style.

That said, here are a few ideas for inspiration:

James Hetfield

The Metallica front-man looks every bit the heavy metal superstar, even when chilling on a couch without a leather jacket in sight. A simple black t-shirt, cuffed jeans, a pair of black Converse hi tops, and of course major confidence. It’s all about the confidence (and the Converse).

Elvis Presley

Yes, even The King loved his Chucks (take that, blue suede shoes!). Elvis, seen here on the set of Change of Habit, sports a comfy sweater, great fitting jeans and a pair of Chucks. Sideburns optional.

The Strokes

It’s tough to find a photo of The Strokes not wearing Converse sneakers. The entire gang are die-hard Chuck fans who also adore tailored suits, slim leather jackets, tight (but not too tight) pants and the occasional plaid flannel shirt. See, Converse really does go with everything. Get the look with Chuck Taylor All Stars in Electric Blue Lemonade, White, or Black.
