Wow, what a wild and wacky weekend! This year, Rifflandia celebrated their 10th year as Victoria’s favourite landmark festival. Bringing music of all genres to various venues around town.

More than just a music festival, Rifflandia celebrates the community of Victoria, featuring local artists and businesses at “The Alley” on “Main Street”, where you could find unique and unexpected festival treasures all weekend long. For the kiddos, Riff promoted fun for the whole family with Kidlandia activities at Royal Athletic Park throughout the entire weekend!

Feeling hungry after an afternoon of serious rockin’ around the park? Riff definitely had you covered. Another fabulous perk of this iconic YYJ festival is the wide array of food trucks, offering up a variety of feasting options brought to you by local vendors.
Baggins Pro-Tip: If you ever have the chance to try out the Green Bastard from Taco Justice, do yourself a favour and indulge (a seriously delicious life saver).

Madi Riff10

We sent Madi, our Social Media Correspondent, out into the field to hang out with the crowds and give away goodies. Did any of you find her, or see her sick finger gun dance moves?

Theme days are always one of our favourite parts of Rifflandia, and this year’s themes definitely didn’t disappoint. Floral Friday brought out all the flower-power children to bask in the sunshine, and Cats in Space Saturday put a fun galactic twist on everyone’s past-favourite theme day: Caturday! Under the Sea Sunday was made complete with an unexpected special guest, the rain – but don’t worry, a little water wasn’t about to stop us from having a good time!

Each day, after the fun was over at the Park, we wandered back into town to catch one of the many night shows. It was a safe bet to find members of the Baggins team along Electric Ave, the super venue connecting three stages. Opting for the full Rifflandia experience, we squeezed ourselves into the smaller venues to listen to some seriously amazing acts.
Baggins Pro-Tip: Check out any of the acts that played the Anian stage, they were all amazing!

Our Top Three Performances:

Madi: Charlotte Day Wilson, Ralph, J GRGRY
Mike: Black Tiger Sex Machine, Bonobo, Astrocolor
Jenna: A Tribe Called Red, July Talk, Lo Waight and the Rattlesnakes

With the help of our pals at Atomique Productions, we at Baggins were also able to put on a couple of contests. Not only did our winners score Super Passes and Rifflandia themed kicks created by our Printshop, but they got to bring their #riffbestie too!

After spending four days with you on the dance floor, we were feeling the Baggins love in full force! We saw you out there bustin’ moves, and cuttin’ rugs in your Chucks, we saw you out there boogying along Electric Ave in your Vans and Herschel fanny packs, and we definitely saw you out there stompin’ away the rain at RAP on Sunday in your Docs! You outdid yourselves Rifflandians, you brought the party loud and did YYJ proud, and we will forever love you for it.

Thank you Rifflandia for another amazing summer weekend, we can’t wait to do it again next year!
