What is Direct-to-Garment printing?

  • Direct-to-Garment printing is an alternative printing method to Screen Printing, in which ink is sprayed directly onto the product, then heat pressed, which cooks the ink into the fabric. This has a number of benefits: you don't have to worry about the designs cracking or peeling over time, we can print in the full CMYK color spectrum at no extra cost, and it makes the designs water-resistant for longer wear!

What does CMYK mean?

  • CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. This combination of colors is the same that you would see in your printer at home, but is more limited than what you can see on your computer/mobile screen. This means that graphics containing colors outside the CMYK color spectrum will be replaced with the next closest color our printer is able to create, which may come out a bit lighter or darker than the original. This is why we state in our disclaimer to expect some color discrepansies.

Do you have a design template I can use?

  • Unfortunately our mock-ups are proprietary, so we are unable to share them at this time. However, it is beneficial to let our designers mock the shoes up for you regardless because we know what will work best for the final print and can make suggestions if required. All we need is the images you want to use and a brief design description and we will send you a mock-up for approval! The price of the shoes also includes up to 2 revisions for free so if we don't get it perfect the first time, we can make any needed adjustments.

Can I change or alter the soles/eyelets/rubber of my shoes?

  • Since we are printing on post-manufactured product, we are unable to change any structural details of the shoes, such as the rubber, soles, eyelets or the Converse logo stamps. 

What areas of the shoes can you print on? 

  • For the Converse Hi-Tops and Lo-Tops, we are able to print on the outer-facing panels, the inner-facing panels and the tongue. Since we are unable to print from multiple angles, we cannot print on the back strip of the shoes, and since our print process only adheres to fabric, we cannot print on the rubber, soles or eyelets.   • For the Vans Classic Slip-Ons, we are only able to print on the tops of the shoes. As you can see in the printable area graphic below, the design will not reach all the way to the sides towards the top of the shoes, past the elastic areas.

  

When filling out my order form, what do the "Panels" mean?

  • Under Customization Options on the order form for Converse, you will have 3 different choices: One Panel (Outside, Inside OR Tongue. Both Shoes: Same Design), Two to Three Panels (Outside, Inside and Tongue. Both Shoes: Same Design), and Four to Six Panels (Outside, Inside and Tongue. Both Shoes: Different Design). Essentially what we are trying to ask is how many areas of the shoes do you want us to print on! If you are wanting the same image printed on just the outside of both shoes, you would select the One Panel option. If you wanted a different image printed on just the outside of both shoes, or if you wanted the shoes to be fully designed in more than one area, but for each shoe to look the same. you would select the Two to Three Panel option. If you wanted every single side of the shoe to have a different print, you would select the Four to Six Panel option.

 

  • For Vans, you will have the options of Simple Logo, or Full Design. Essentially we just want to know if your graphic will be smaller and centered, or take up the entire printable area.

 

What color shoe will work best with my design?

  • The best general rule is to assess your images; if your images are primarily light or have a white background, they will look best on a white shoe, if your images are primarily dark or have a black background, they will look best on a black shoe. Aside from that, the choice is really yours! Our talented designers are happy to make suggestions to help you if need be. As an additional note, pink and red shoes are our highest pigment canvas, so any graphic printed on a red or pink shoe will likely have a slightly pink/red tint to them.

If you don't have the color shoe I want, can I print the shoes a specific color?

  • As previously mentioned, since we print on post-manufactured product and cannot print at multiple angles, there is often some fading towards the heels of the shoes. With a graphic, this is less noticeable, but with flat colors it becomes a lot more obvious, and the severity can vary depending on the design and the size of the shoes. For this reason, we suggest avoiding printing a flat all-over color on any shoes. We are also unable to guarantee an exact color match due to the restrictions of our color process and the variances that can occur as the ink sinks into the canvas.
  • As an additional note: Printing an all-over color on black/colored shoes requires a lot of ink to cover the dark canvas, which increases the risk of the design rubbing off or fading over time.

Should I expect any color fading on my regular designs as well?

  • Some color fading towards the heels of the Converse shoes and the sides of the Vans is normal. Since the shoes are already set in their shape, our printer can have difficulty reaching the parts of the shoes that curve. In addition, as you can see above in the Printable Areas, the prints on the tops of the Vans shoes don't go all the way to the sides. Here are some examples of what you should expect:

 

What kind of images can I submit for my design?

  • We require all graphics/images be a minimum original size of 600x600 pixels (no resizing). For optimal print results, you should look for the largest and highest resolution versions of your images possible. The easiest way to search for high resolution photos is to go to Google Images, enter your search, click on the 'Search Tools' button under the search bar, and set the 'Image Size' to 'Large'. This will ensure that you are looking at the best possible versions of all images. While we do accept all forms of art, please be advised that the customer takes responsibility for all images provided to us. 
  • As an additional note, our online order form only accepts basic image files (JPG, PNG, GIF), and can sometimes have issues with files exceeding 10000x10000 pixels, so if you would like to submit super high resolution images, Vector art or PDFs, just let us know in your Design Description and we will e-mail you to collect them!

How long will it take to receive my shoes?

  • Our average turn-around time for custom prints is 7-10 business days from the date of design approval, but can increase to 10-12 business days during peak seasons; these timelines do not including shipping. If you are concerned about receiving your order on time, feel free to upgrade your shipping at checkout, or contact us and we may be able to rush it for an additional fee! Once your order has been placed, it will remain in “On Hold” status until it has been printed, and processed at our warehouse. 

If I love my design, is it possible to order the same one again in the future?

  • We keep all customer files submitted to us, so if you would like to order another print that we've previously created, just use your order# as a reference and we can look it up for you!

My company/team/club/wedding party would like to order multiple pairs of the same design, do you offer discounts for that?

  • We sure do! We offer discounts starting at 10 pairs of the same design, with the price fluctuating depending on the quantity, the type of shoes selected, and the complexity of the design (panel amount). Contact us with your desired quantity and shipping address for more information

Will I have to pay duties, customs, or brokerage? 

    • Canada: As we are in Canada as well, there are are no additional taxes (other than what is required by law), duties or brokerage charges for parcels destined to Canadian addresses.
    • USA: We have been shipping shoes to the US for over 10 years, and only once or twice have we heard back that the customer had to pay anything extra when they arrived at their door, and even then it was for very high valued order (8 + pairs). If you're just getting a few pair, you are safe. If you're ordering over a few hundred dollars worth, there's an extremely slim chance you may have to pay some duties.  
    • Outside North America: We strongly urge customers to look into any tax implications before placing an order from abroad.  Unfortunately there's no way for us to know if and if so how these taxes are applied in all the different countries we ship to.  Almost every country is different, and the rules change. Some countries are very strict with their regulations, others are not. All we have to go by is customer feedback. We do ship regularly overseas, and it is very rare that we hear the customer had to pay any extra. Maybe most parcels just slip through the cracks, or perhaps people just expect it.  We are not responsible for any duties, tax, or customs charges you may have to pay upon the arrival of the goods.
  • Baggins is not responsible for any duty, taxes or brokerage charges.

What is your return policy?

  • Since every pair of custom shoes is made-to-order, there are no returns or exchanges once you have approved your mock-up. However, if you are unhappy with the look of your shoes or change your mind after you have seen the first mockup, you are welcome to cancel your order for a full refund.
