TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR HISTORY WITH ART AND ILLUSTRATION. HOW DID YOU "FIND" YOUR STYLE?
I’ve always had art and drawings around since I was really young, and I never really thought of it more than anything but a hobby until a few years ago when I started to take it more seriously. It took me quite some time to find the style I was happy with, and even today I’m still trying to work on it. My style ended up just coming in time from constant daily practice, eventually just developing over time from the doodles I did as a kid to what I draw now. I made lots of shortcuts for when I couldn’t draw certain things (I still can’t draw mouths at all haha) and I think that helped guide me to more of a minimalist and simple approach. A big theme and challenge of my art is trying to get some sort of emotional reaction, from as little visuals as possible.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE SPACE - WHAT ARE THE CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE YOU FEEL MOST INSPIRED?
I’m really dependent on having a good mood set down for when I draw or create anything. My space at home is pretty simple. A chair, a desk, a window to get distracted by and do some gazing, probably a cup of tea, and probably some music going to drown out any other outside noises. When I sit down to draw anywhere, it has to be just right or I’ll just give up on it!

LET US IN ON YOUR PROCESS FOR CREATING THIS PARTICULAR PIECE.
When I was thinking of what to make for the shoe design, I wanted it to be fairly simple to represent my work best, but something that would stand out too. So I went for the theme of contrast between black and white, and as I was working away on concepts, the contrast of nature and human construction ended up tying in nicely with that. It was interesting trying to balance out the black and white fill parts on the shoe, as to not make everything a big wash of black splotches. I wanted every segment to stand out in its own way.

WE'RE SO STOKED TO BE COLLABORATING WITH YOU. WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO PURSUE THIS PROJECT WITH BAGGINS?
Clothing/fashion is a big interest and hobby of mine. I’ve done t-shirt designs before, but nothing ever like shoes. It’s a whole different ball park as there’s a lot more that’s affecting the design before you even put it on the shoe itself. It was a really fun challenge to take on, and I was pretty happy that a local business was willing to give me that experience, support my art, and give me a platform to display my art for Victoria in a much different way than usual. Very thankful for the experience, thanks again!
